Week 7: Barefoot Gen Response

This week's readings and films that were assigned were all very heavy and serious. Personally, I think anything about World War II, The Bombings on Hiroshima and anything about Hitler is very interesting. Not because I enjoy the death and wars, it's because that part of history is something I reflect on when I think of humanity. The fact that we do these things to other people and how angry people can be to actually think these actions will make anything better is mind-bottling. It's sad and watching Barefoot Gen made me reflect on these events again.

I've never really been interested in Manga's before, but I was really interested in this specific one because of what it was about. Getting the audience connected to the characters first was something I noticed, but once most of the family died I was still upset and hurt. It was all very graphic as well when the bombing happened. I didn't expect so much of it, but it was definitely interesting and now that I think of it, an important part of the film as well. Also, when we as American's learn about these bombings and events we only know that we bombed them because they did something bad to us. However, what they don't talk to us about is that we bombed a lot of innocent people, families who were having fun together, friends who were hanging out and playing outside. And this manga shows us their experiences and although I'm not sure if this specific story is true, it still shows us their experiences.
