Week 8: March Book One Response

Reading the 1st March Book was very interesting and I really enjoyed reading it as well. There's a lot of different aspects that I liked, but something that stuck out was the art style. I think it really worked with the subject matter and it kind of reminded me of old time comics.

However, focusing on stereotypes I think there were a couple that stood out to me that I have comments on. For example, the whole thing about enjoying chicken was something I noticed right off the bat. Which I personally think is a stupid stereotype for African Americans because literally, almost everyone likes chicken. But the twist about this stereotype in this comic was that the little boy didn't like eating the chicken very much, because he got attached to them.

Another thing that was included in the comic was the use of the N-word a lot when the family traveled. I dislike that word so much, for obvious reasons of course and I know that it's apart of our history, but it still doesn't mean I have to accept and like it. Even though in this comic there's only this certain part of it that includes that, but it still adds to the comic as well.
